NEWS 📰

Bank stocks are expected to outperform the market due to optimism surrounding the Corporate Value-up plan.

Despite rising regulatory pressures and geopolitical uncertainties, bank stocks in Korea are expected to outperform the market due to positive sentiment surrounding the government's Corporate Value-up Program and a strengthening Korean won. This initiative, aimed at addressing the "Korea discount" by encouraging listed firms to enhance their value, is boosting investor confidence in the financial sector.

Hana Securities analyst Choi Jeong-wook recommends expanding holdings in bank stocks, noting that despite domestic and international challenges, the environment is favorable for value enhancement, particularly with rising capital ratios. Notably, Hana Financial Group's shares surged by about 10% last week, and KB Financial Group saw a 3.3% increase. On Monday, Hana's shares rose by 2.23%, while KB's increased by 1.96%.

The declining won-dollar exchange rate, driven by expectations of a potential rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve, is also fueling interest in bank stocks. A stronger won could improve banks' capital ratios and boost shareholder returns, further enhancing the appeal of these stocks.

Market data from FnGuide indicates that earnings forecasts for the parent companies of major banks have been revised upward, reflecting the benefits of rising household loan interest rates and a favorable interest rate environment. The total projected net profits for the four major financial holding companies — KB, Shinhan, Hana, and Woori — for the third quarter are estimated at 4.77 trillion won, an increase of over 500 billion won from earlier forecasts. This combination of factors suggests that bank stocks could continue to perform well in the near term.

Around 180 Koreans have entered Israel for a religious event despite the escalating war.

Approximately 180 South Korean nationals have entered Israel to attend a religious event, even as tensions in the region escalate due to ongoing missile and air strikes between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group. The South Korean diplomatic mission in Israel has been informed of their arrival and is urging them to leave the country immediately through various channels.

The South Korean government is closely monitoring the movements of its citizens in the Middle East and has strongly advised all Koreans in the region to evacuate for their safety. The number of South Koreans in Israel has now increased to 680 from 500 due to the recent arrivals. Additionally, around 100 South Koreans are currently in Iran, and 90 others are in Lebanon.

Despite the heightened tensions, no harm to South Korean nationals or damage to their properties has been reported so far, according to the foreign ministry. The situation remains under close watch, with continuous efforts to ensure the safety of all South Koreans in the region.

Watch the moment when BLACKPINK’s Jennie playfully gets "jealous" as Jisoo dances with Lisa, her best friend.

During a BLACKPINK livestream, Jennie playfully got "jealous" when Jisoo and Lisa shared a cute moment. As the group was enjoying their time together, Lisa suddenly declared she and Jisoo were best friends and hugged her, followed by a "best friend dance." This caught Jennie's attention, leading her to adorably act like a "jealous best friend." Jennie humorously confronted Jisoo, questioning her loyalty and pretending to be hurt that Jisoo would share their special moments with someone else.

Jennie's playful antics escalated as she jokingly accused Jisoo of singing their special melody to others and lamented that Lisa didn't even do the dance correctly. The fun ended with Jennie and Jisoo laughing together, doing their best friend dance properly, and Jennie mockingly warning Jisoo not to repeat her actions. The moment was a lighthearted display of the close bond between the BLACKPINK members.

In other BLACKPINK news, the group recently reunited for their 8th debut anniversary fan sign event and the premiere of their "BORN PINK" film on August 8 and 9, marking a special moment for both the members and their fans.
