Samsung and LG prioritize reducing AI obstacles for consumers at IFA 2024.

Samsung and LG focused on AI integration at this year’s IFA exhibition, showcasing how AI can improve daily life. Samsung emphasized its SmartThings platform, which connects home devices, optimizes energy use, and simplifies tasks via voice commands with Bixby, now able to recognize individual users. LG presented its new ThinQ ON home hub, which controls home appliances and integrates AI models like ChatGPT-4omni. The hub also works with non-AI devices and will integrate Athom’s platform, enabling compatibility with many global brands. Both companies highlighted how AI can enhance home efficiency and convenience.

Concerns about the US economy caused Bitcoin to drop by 3%.

Bitcoin dropped 3% to $56,000 due to worries about a U.S. economic slowdown and the upcoming release of August employment data. A Bitfinex report suggests a potential 20% drop to $40,000 if the Federal Reserve announces a 50 basis point interest rate cut. The cryptocurrency market is weak, with low demand and bearish trends. U.S. payrolls also fell short of expectations, increasing the likelihood of a rate cut at the Fed’s meeting. Experts say the market will stay uncertain, and a recession could lead to further price drops.

'My Lovely Sam Soon' makes a comeback after 20 years, aiming at Gen Z audiences.

"My Lovely Sam Soon," a hit 2005 romantic drama starring Kim Sun-a and Hyun Bin, has returned to screens through Wavve's "New Classic Project." This initiative aims to introduce classic dramas to younger audiences who may recognize them from clips or memes but haven’t experienced the full stories.

The show follows the romance between pastry chef Kim Sam-soon and restaurant owner Hyun Jin-heon and was groundbreaking for its portrayal of a confident, non-traditional female lead. With its original peak viewership of 50%, the series was praised for its progressive portrayal of women and the introduction of the patissier profession.

Though some question whether a 19-year-old drama will resonate with today’s audience, director Kim Yun-chul believes Sam-soon’s confidence and timeless character will inspire a new generation. Kim Sun-a, reflecting on her iconic role, expressed her happiness in sharing the beloved story once more.

The series was written by Choi Yu-na, a divorce lawyer who began the project as a webtoon in 2019. She juggled her legal career and family responsibilities while crafting the script over five years. The show reflects a growing trend in K-content, where divorce-themed dramas are increasingly popular, driven by societal changes and the normalization of divorce. However, while these dramas offer deeper explorations of marital issues, some critics argue that reality shows on the same topic often oversimplify and sensationalize these complex issues.
