The first Snow hits Seoul on Wednesday

Winter's first snowfall is forecast to blanket much of Korea, including Seoul, on Wednesday, as rain on Tuesday evening transitions into snow.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported that temperatures would drop sharply from Tuesday evening. As cold air moves in during the afternoon, rain is likely to turn to snow, potentially bringing the season’s first snowfall to the peninsula's interior.

On Wednesday, snow is expected to mainly affect central regions, with strong winds prolonging a cold snap. Heavy snowfall is anticipated in areas such as eastern Gyeonggi Province, the inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon Province, and eastern North Jeolla Province.

While precipitation is expected to subside by Thursday, snow may continue in Gangwon's central and southern inland and mountainous regions, as well as North Gyeongsang Province's interior.

Strong winds and cold air will sweep across the Korean Peninsula, maintaining chilly conditions throughout the week. Temperatures are forecast to range from lows of -6 to -4°C and highs of 2 to 11°C. Thursday is expected to be slightly colder, with lows of -6 to -5°C and highs of 2 to 13°C.

Snowfall over the next two days will vary across the country:

• Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province: 3 to 8 cm, with over 10 cm in eastern Gyeonggi.

• Gangwon Province (inland and mountainous areas): 5 to 15 cm, with some locations seeing up to 20 cm.

• Daejeon, Sejong, and South Chungcheong Province: 1 to 5 cm.

• North Chungcheong Province: 5 to 10 cm.

• North Jeolla Province: 3 to 10 cm, with some areas receiving over 15 cm.

• South Jeolla Province (inland areas): Up to 5 cm.

• North Gyeongsang Province (eastern regions): 5 to 10 cm.

• South Gyeongsang Province (inland areas): 2 to 7 cm.

18 were injured in Hwaseong Motel fire

Eighteen people were injured when a fire broke out at a motel in Hwaseong, located 44 kilometers south of Seoul, on Monday night, according to the local fire station on Tuesday.

The fire engulfed a four-story, 30-room motel in Hwaseong's Bongdam district shortly after 10 p.m. and was extinguished within about 30 minutes by nearly 100 firefighters, the station reported.

Among the injured, a guest found in cardiac arrest in a second-floor room regained consciousness after being taken to a hospital. Two others sustained serious injuries, while 15 people suffered minor injuries, such as smoke inhalation.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to have started at the first-floor counter.

Actors Lee Dong-hwi and Jung Ho-yeon have ended their nine-year relationship.

Actors Lee Dong-hwi, 39, and Jung Ho-yeon, 30, have ended their nine-year relationship, marking the conclusion of one of the entertainment industry's longest-standing romances.

Both Lee’s agency, Company On, and Jung’s agency, Saram Entertainment, confirmed the breakup, stating, “Lee Dong-hwi and Jung Ho-yeon have chosen to return to being good colleagues.”

The couple, who began dating publicly in 2016, shared a strong connection throughout their relationship. Even after Jung gained international fame for her role as Kang Sae-byeok in Netflix's Squid Game (2021), she frequently expressed her affection for Lee at public events.

Similarly, Lee spoke warmly of Jung during an episode of the ENA variety show Kwak Jun-bin’s World Taxi Restaurant 2 in August, telling a U.S. taxi driver, “Do you know Squid Game? Sae-byeok is my girlfriend and my best friend.”

Both actors remain focused on their careers following the split. Jung recently appeared in the Apple TV+ series Disclaimer and is preparing for the release of director Na Hong-jin’s film Hope. Lee, on the other hand, will feature in the upcoming tvN variety show Rented in Finland and perform in the play The Lives of Others, which opens Wednesday.
