Korea’s most hottest summer

Korea is expected to experience its hottest summer on record, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). Heatwave alerts and advisories have been issued for most of the country, with temperatures in Seoul not dropping below 27.3 degrees Celsius overnight. The persistent heat is due to high-pressure systems from Tibet and the North Pacific, along with typhoons affecting the region.

Tropical nights, where temperatures remain above 25 degrees Celsius, are increasing, averaging 4.9 days this year compared to 1.8 days historically. From May 20 to July 26, Korea saw 856 heat-related illnesses, with a significant spike in late July. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) advises avoiding outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and staying hydrated.

Globally, the average surface temperature reached 17.15 degrees Celsius on July 22, the highest since records began in 1940.

Jimin of BTS topped Spotify’s Daily Top Song Global chart with “Who,” the lead track from his second solo album, “Muse,” on July 23-24. He is one of only two K-pop solo artists, alongside fellow BTS member Jungkook, to achieve this milestone. “Who” debuted at No. 3 on the chart on July 19, recording the highest daily streams for a K-pop song this year. The track is a hip-hop R&B song about longing for true love.

Additionally, Jimin’s B-side track, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band,” reached 100 million streams on Spotify on July 21, becoming the first K-pop song to do so this year. This hip-hop track features big band sounds and a bouncy rhythm.
