Emphasizing strong deterrence against North Korea through the South Korea-U.S. alliance, Yoon ordered the creation of economic consultative bodies to prepare for potential shifts in U.S. policy, which could have widespread effects on markets, security, and trade. Yoon highlighted opportunities for collaboration with the U.S. in shipbuilding and petrochemicals, alongside advanced sectors like AI and biotechnology. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) raised concerns that Trump’s policy focus on U.S. interests may strain alliances. DPK leader Lee Jae-myung called for resuming dialogue with North Korea, contrasting with Yoon’s confrontational approach, and suggested reducing U.S. arms imports if defense cost-sharing increases.
