South Korean authorities extend the arrest warrant for embattled President Yoon Suk Yeol.

South Korea’s suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol faces extended detention as the Seoul Western District Court reissued a warrant for his questioning regarding his declaration of martial law in December. The Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) is collaborating with police and the defense ministry to investigate Yoon on charges, including insurrection, which could lead to life imprisonment or the death penalty.

The initial warrant, issued on December 31, expired Monday but was reissued Tuesday. Its deadline remains undisclosed. Authorities attempted to detain Yoon last week but faced resistance at the presidential compound, fortified with barbed wire and blocked entrances. Protests from both supporters and opponents of Yoon have intensified, with his backers labeling the warrant illegal and vowing resistance.

If detained, investigators will have 48 hours to question Yoon before seeking an additional warrant. The martial law declaration, which triggered impeachment proceedings, drew significant backlash, including from Yoon’s party members. Yoon’s legal team has objected to the warrant, calling it invalid and promising further legal challenges.

Samsung unveils its vision for the future, aiming for AI leadership over the next century.

Summary:

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Samsung Electronics unveiled its vision for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into everyday life, emphasizing connected and personalized experiences beyond traditional home applications. The company showcased SmartThings Ambient Sensing Technology, which uses connected devices to analyze movements intuitively and sounds to enhance daily life.

Key Highlights:

  1. AI-Powered Features:

    • Smart Home Integration: AI adjusts devices like TVs, lighting, and temperature based on user activity and presence, optimizing energy usage.

    • Health Applications: Wearable devices monitor sleep quality and adjust room conditions or suggest medical consultations if necessary.

    • Real-Time Assistance: AI tracks workout movements to provide feedback or detects sounds (e.g., hairdryers) to activate complementary devices like robot vacuums.

  2. Vision AI for TVs:

    • TVs will feature functions like Click to Search for instant content information and Live Translate, offering on-device language translation.

  3. Expansion Beyond Homes:

    • Samsung demonstrated the SmartThings IoT platform extending to external applications, including Hyundai's IONIQ 9 EV and Samsung Heavy Industries' autonomous ship, Shift-Auto.

  4. AI-Driven Products:

    • The Ballie home robot is set for release in the first half of 2025.

    • Laptops like the Galaxy Book 5 Pro were used to demonstrate AI-enhanced efficiency rather than showcased as standalone products.

Booth Experience:

Samsung prioritized immersive AI demonstrations over product displays, offering visitors interactive scenarios of its AI vision. Corporate clients could view new products like Ballie at a separate zone outside the main convention.

Samsung CEO Han Jong-hee emphasized the company’s ambition to lead AI integration for the next century, redefining the concept of a connected, intelligent home.

Rosé's APT. climbs back to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

"APT.," a collaboration between BLACKPINK's Rosé and global pop star Bruno Mars, has soared to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, setting a new milestone for K-pop female artists.

The song jumped 29 spots from the previous week, surpassing its debut position of No. 8, as revealed by Billboard's chart preview on Monday (U.S. time). This achievement marks the highest position ever reached by a K-pop female artist on the Hot 100, breaking Rosé's own record with the same track.

The Hot 100 ranks the week’s most popular songs in the U.S., factoring in streaming, radio airplay, and sales across all genres.

In addition to its U.S. success, "APT." has regained momentum in the UK, climbing 26 spots to No. 2 on the Official Singles Chart Top 100, matching its previous peak.

The track is featured on rosie, Rosé's first solo full-length album, released on December 6. The upbeat pop-punk song, inspired by a popular Korean drinking game called the "apartment game," has captivated global audiences with its catchy chorus featuring the word "apartment," pronounced "apateu," a Korean abbreviation.
