NEWS 📰

'The cryptocurrency industry will continue to grow regardless of who becomes the US president.'

The cryptocurrency industry is poised to continue growing regardless of the outcome of the upcoming U.S. presidential election in November, according to a report from the Upbit Investors Protection Center. Upbit, operated by Dunamu, is Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.

The report emphasized that cryptocurrency has become a significant factor in election funding, with companies in the sector contributing substantially to federal campaigns. This surge in contributions suggests that future U.S. policies will likely be more favorable toward cryptocurrencies, regardless of which candidate wins the presidency.

If Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee expected to maintain President Joe Biden’s regulatory approach, wins, the report anticipates steady, regulated growth for the crypto industry. In contrast, if Republican candidate Donald Trump is elected, the industry may experience increased volatility, though it will likely continue expanding.

The influence of the cryptocurrency industry in the election is underscored by data from OpenSecrets, which revealed that cryptocurrency companies contributed $119 million to federal campaigns this year, a significant rise from $4.6 million in 2022. Leading contributors include Coinbase and Ripple, backing the blockchain-focused super PAC, Fairshake. As one of the most well-funded super PACs, Fairshake is expected to drive policies and legislation that are favorable to the cryptocurrency industry in the future.

The police are set to invest $2 million in deepfake detection technology.

The police plan to allocate 2.7 billion won ($2 million) next year to develop deep-learning technology aimed at detecting deepfake content, as the prevalence of AI-generated material targeting women continues to rise. According to the National Police Agency on Thursday, the funds will be used to create technologies by 2025 to combat digital sex crimes involving deepfake video and audio content.

Over the next three years, the agency intends to invest 9.1 billion won in the project. Additionally, 500 million won will be set aside to enhance the existing deepfake detection technologies.

The total police budget for next year is expected to surpass 13.5 trillion won, pending a National Assembly review. There will also be a significant increase in funds to support crime victims and prevent retaliatory offenses. Specifically, 2.45 billion won from the Crime Victim Protection Fund will be allocated to provide private security services for high-risk victims, such as those affected by stalking and dating violence.

Moreover, the agency will increase compensation for informants who provide valuable information in investigations related to organized crimes, including fraud and gambling.

BLACKPINK's Jennie and GOT7's BamBam have quickly dismissed dating rumors after being spotted together in the U.S. The speculation arose when paparazzi photos of the two dining together in Los Angeles began circulating online.

The photos, which show Jennie and BamBam smiling and chatting at a Japanese restaurant with agency staff and acquaintances, sparked widespread interest and led to rumors about a possible romantic relationship.

However, Jennie's agency, OA Entertainment, clarified Thursday, saying, "They simply had a meal together as acquaintances."

Meanwhile, Jennie is set to release her first solo single under her newly established company, OA Entertainment, next month. BamBam recently released his third mini-album, BAMESIS, and continues to make appearances on various web shows.
