Woori Bank has been struck by yet another financial scandal, as a $4.1 million fraud case has been uncovered.
Another financial scandal involving 5.5 billion won ($4.1 million) has been uncovered at Woori Bank.
According to sources, Woori Bank disclosed the financial incident on Monday, which involved falsified documents submitted by an external party between July 2 and Aug. 1.
The bank revealed that an external party submitted fraudulent documents to secure a loan for the purchase of a residential studio. The incident was uncovered during a routine branch inspection.
The bank said it anticipates no difficulties in recovering the funds, as the collateral is valued at 7.9 billion won. Additionally, the borrower has not missed any interest payments thus far.
Following a thorough investigation, the bank plans to consider filing a criminal complaint or accusation.
This marks the third major financial incident that Woori Bank has disclosed this year.
In June, an embezzlement case involving over 10 billion won was uncovered at a branch in South Gyeongsang Province, prompting the bank to replace its compliance officer and pledge measures to prevent future incidents.
In August, the bank was criticized by financial authorities for delaying the reporting of a wrongful loan case involving a relative of its former group chairman, Sohn Tae-seung. The bank reported this as a financial incident involving 16.5 billion won.
Meanwhile, the Financial Supervisory Service will begin a regular inspection of Woori Bank and Woori Financial Group from Oct. 7.
BLACKPINK's Jennie and Rose have revealed plans for their upcoming solo projects.
BLACKPINK fans have much to look forward to as Jennie and Rose prepare to release new solo music, marking their first solo projects in over a year.
Jennie recently confirmed her solo return, announcing on her official website that her new single, "Mantra," will drop on October 11. She also provided links for fans to pre-save the song on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
Leading up to the announcement, Jennie teased her global fanbase with videos and images, stirring curiosity about the upcoming release. One teaser, released on September 25 with the phrase "CALLING ALL PRETTY GIRLS," generated significant excitement and caught the attention of both fans and fellow artists.

Tteokbokki: Korea's top comfort food and popular street snack
Tteokbokki, a dish of soft rice cakes simmered in spicy gochujang (red chili paste), is widely regarded as Korea's most iconic street snack.
Originally a royal delicacy made with soy sauce and beef during the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910), tteokbokki transformed into its modern spicy version in the 1950s, thanks to a vendor named Ma Bok-lim in Seoul's Sindang-dong area.
Since then, this affordable and delicious dish has become a staple at street stalls near schools and in busy districts like Myeong-dong, serving as a comfort food for students and office workers alike.
Its sentimental value is significant, as reflected in a 2020 online survey by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, where tteokbokki was voted the No. 1 comfort food during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beyond Korea, tteokbokki's popularity has grown thanks to its frequent appearances in K-dramas, K-films, and K-pop. A 2020 photo of BTS's Jimin enjoying tteokbokki at Seoul's Dongdaemun Market went viral, spurring interest in the dish and boosting sales of pre-packaged meal kits.
It has also been featured in several popular TV and Netflix series, such as "My Liberation Notes," "The Beauty Inside," "Be Melodramatic," "Hello, My Twenties!" and "Kill Boksoon." Recently, the hit legal drama "Good Partner," starring Jang Na-ra, included tteokbokki as a comfort food that helps her character express emotions.
Mukbang videos of YouTubers indulging in cheesy, spicy plates of tteokbokki have garnered millions of views, further showcasing its appeal.
Even the classic American show "Sesame Street" highlighted tteokbokki as the favorite food of Ji-young, the first Asian American Muppet, when she joined the series in 2021.
